Dig into ASP.NET Membership - Extend MembershipUser

22/07/2007 22:25

Membership in ASP .NET 2.0 is a great add-on. But I believe you will ask a question as soon as you start using it. “How can I add extral info to a user”. Normally I create a user will name, telephone number, company, etc. but the membershipuser wont let you do it. dont think membership is useless, MS gives you the option to extend it.

I spent some time this weekend to dig into how to extend the membership and successully getting it work. Yaaaa ^_^

I’d like to share my experience with you, so please leave comment. but before you do it, read this MSDN article first
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms366730.aspx

I also integrate the extended MembershipUser with my NHiberante MembershipProvider. They both work great :)

Toward something that the world is pointing toward
The earth beneath his feet, in its dark cape,
Are gliding toward me on the ice into
Like theirs ends? From what distant point of vision
And half-starved foxes shake and paw

Will hear the storm-blast of his clarion.
In realms of dingy gloom and deep crevasse
When Arctic winds crack down from Canada
My soul lies cracked; and when, in its despair,
But snow has gathered there, has piled up,
Against this sky no longer of our world.
To pick up even the quickening of wind

VISTA was kicked out my computer again

19/07/2007 21:58

Gave second chance to Windows Beauty, VISTA. and this time, it lasts 2 weeks. But I spent much time on finding patches, updates, new version of software, and finally feel really tired on working on this OS. Windows 2000 needs 4 service packs to go stable, XP has 2. MS seems getting better, but time will tell

So if you are a trouble seeker, VISTA will definiately your choice, otherwise, keep away from it as far as it. and waiting for MS’ service pack or next version of VISTA, just like Win95, Win97, and Win98
No VISTA

ASP.NET Development Server On VISTA IS SLOOOOOOW

04/07/2007 23:43

Although M$ throwed SP1 and SP Vista update out, VS2005 still cannot run on VISTA properly. “ASP.NET Development Server” on VISTA performances extremely poor. It can took up to 10 seconds to display a simple page!

The way to around it is replacing ASP.NET Development Server with IIS 7 binding with VISTA. In order to debug your developing scripts on IIS 7. You have to install “IIS6 Management Compatibility” and “Windows Authentication” and make sure Windows Authentication is enabled on IIS. In my case, F5 debugging works straight away. If you dont have any luck, try the solution of Mike on http://mvolo.com/blogs/serverside/archive/2006/12/28/Fix-problems-with-Visual-Studio-F5-debugging-of-ASP.NET-applications-on-IIS7-Vista.aspx

Vista Reload

01/07/2007 21:43

Tried VISTA month ago, was very unhappy with the performance and compatibility with current software. After months, I want to give a go again.

Thanks to VS 2005 SP1 VISTA upgrade, VS 2005, one of my daily using software, can be run. But there are still maaaany issus with other softwares

1. Tortoisesvn has interface issue
2. MyGeneration cannot connect to SQL Server 2005 because of no MDAC 2.7 on VISTA

Oh Dear god, when microsoft can give us a usable OS!!!!!
